Yesterday was our big family day and we had a Christmas ceilidh!
It started pretty quietly...
we sang some Christmas carols accompanied by actual instruments...
then we poured out the Irish lagers and Guiness' and sang our best Irish songs...
we sang along with the Chieftains....
and danced...
then somebody put Great Big Sea on the player and we roared...
and decided that percussion was way easier to cope with at this stage...
and I wished I'd brought a bodran back from Ireland....
There was more dancing...
and some drumming....
And, I know that my Dad was joining in - from wherever he is - and was thrilled to see my sister with the spoons!
We had to leave Eeyore to play softly on the guitar....who knew he was a party animal?
It was amazing and lovely! We had the happiest gathering ever!!
That was definitely the most fun Boxing Day we've ever had!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.
ReplyDeleteThat looked like a lot of fun. It was fun for me to see everyone again.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to have done that, it sounds like a blast! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had great fun! As for the KAL, I'm thinking of frogging my farmer's market card and using the yarn for a chicknits cardigan pattern that I think I'd like better.
ReplyDeleteGo hÍontach,(wonderful) Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteIn true Irish spirit, lots of music, lots of craic!
You've definitely got Irish blood in your veins!
That looked like so much fun. I hope someone took video, as well!

Wow--what a wonderful party that must have been. Singing and dancing and drumming--what could be better?
ReplyDeleteThat's what Christmas is all about - family, friends & fun!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than a good old family sing-song. Your pictures made me smile. Happy Christmas to you all.
ReplyDeleteNow thats real family fun, what a great time you all had, Eeyore is really into parties and guitar playing it seems.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joyful post! My favorites are the little girls dancing and also Eyore joining in! What is a ceilidh? A party? This post really interests me because it makes me think you are Irish? I just adore Irish and Celtic music.I had every Riverdance video that there was. I have many Celtic C.D.'s, like Clannad, etc. and we always listen to this NPR radio program called The Shamrock And Thistle. It's Irish and Scotch traditional music, the shamrock and thistle being the national flowers of Ireland and Scotland.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a lot of Irish genes going on there - have you?! A bodhrán would've been a nice extra but they are hard enough to play I believe, so a tambourine is probably giving the rhythm without the grief! What a talented bunch you all are! We used to always have a more traditionally Irish Paddy's day when we lived abroad than we do here so maybe it's the same with Christmas - ours was very quiet and the "kidults" played the Wii Fit Plus to see what our new year's resolutions need to address! (I have a little work to do on my BMI!)
