Sunday wonders - B

B is for Beds.  Garden beds, that is.

Yesterday we ordered a small load of soil to make the beds for the veggies we'll be growing this summer.

It doesn't look like much but it takes a lot of wheelbarrow trips to get enough soil in each bed to make the plants happy.

We shovelled...

and dumped...

until we had them just right.

Now that the beds are made, it's time to get the rest of the garden looking as neat and tidy.

  1. What good, rich soil it looks like. I can see the wheelbarrow by the mound of dirt, and it looks dwarfed. Did you count how many loads it took? That would be a fun guessing game. What are you growing? You'll have to keep us posted on it. I bet your shoulders are so sore right now!

  2. I guess that's what you call motivation if you want to get your vehicle in and out of the garage! Reminds me of having landscape rock delivered when we lived in Arizona. I bet you slept well after all that hard work.

That's a pretty pink flowering shrub/tree in your yard.

  3. Good day's work there, Stephanie!
I'm wondering will it be difficult to remove the last crumbs of soil from your front?
My back is much better today, thanks, even managed a hike in Glendalough! Post to follow later in the week!

  4. Ginny - it was 3 cu. yards of soil and that was the big wheelbarrow. The one I dumped was the small one.

Diva - we're hoping to have lots of veggies!

Lindy - the car lives in a carport. We don't have room in the garage for a car with all the other junk. The tree with pink flowers is a Japanese quince. We have made quince jam and it was quite deliciously tart.

Mimi - I googled Glendalough. Just another for the 'return to Ireland' list. Can't wait for your posts.
I think a good rainstorm will take care of any soil left behind.

  5. Looks great rich topsoil, and I love the raised beds. Hubby tidied up the polytunnel and planted out straggly strawberries which should fruit now they're sorted. I replied to your comment on my knitting post over at my blog in case you don't get notifications!

  6. That looks very rich and fertile soil. I usually like buy small packs of potting mix.

    Good luck with the garden.

  7. The load of soil was dumped right in front of your garage door, lots of hard work ahead before your back in your garage!
Raised gardens work so well and are easier to garden too, not so much bending.
Your all ready for Spring planting,

  8. I remember the days when we used to get a yard of two of soil delivered and thought it didn't look a lot, until you had to move it all!!

Good luck with those veggie gardens,

  9. Your beds look great and I think they would be quite easy to weed and maintain. A great idea. I have yellow tomatoes started inside. I plan on putting them in pots on our deck. Happy Gardening. Ann
