Just reporting that I think I will recover. Two things I have discovered:
1. I won't be depending on morphine or her little sister, dilaudid, for any more help. That made me feel so-o-o sick. I filled the prescription, took one and spent the rest of the day and night with a basin. I wasn't sure if it was the residual morphine that they shot into me at the ER. But I took no more after midnight and feel a lot better this morning.
2. Muscle relaxers are wonderful!
I'm not complaining about the meds I was given...it worked quickly and took the excruciating pain away. But I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, apparently. And if it's dull pain vs swimming head and dehydration, I'll take the pain. Advil and Tylenol seem to be holding it at bay quite nicely right now. So, full marks to the ER doctor for getting me back on my feet.
Thanks to all who've left me good wishes and helpful advice. I appreciate it.
I'm with you! I'd much rather have some pain than be nauseaus or dizzy!! I'm so sorry for all this!! Try to get some rest and not do much bending, twisting, or straining your back. Muscle relaxers are good. If you continue to have trouble, there are prescription pills, I have to take them sometimes for pulled muscles. Flexaril works well and doesn't make me sick. Or you could just go find a porcupine!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're finding some relief from the pain and beginning to recover. Having used a morphine pump after surgery, I completely understand why you don't like the stuff.
ReplyDeleteI too don't have a strong stomach and muscle relaxants just make me sleep.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon,
Gill
Oh no! How awful. I was laid up last year for four or five days and it was NOT fun.
ReplyDeleteHope you are on the mend! C x
Ps. Would you believe my word verif is 'backed'!!
I'm sort of surprised you got opiates for this type of pain. I agree, who needs nausea and vomiting when you already feel poorly. Besides, being sick to your stomach will only make you hurt more.
ReplyDeleteAnti-inflammatories are best. Well. Ice is best, but things like ibuprofen help the inflammation better. Also, lidoderm patches over the site that hurts are beneficial and don't make you puke.
Hope you're better today and at least able to knit.
how are you feeling now?
ReplyDeleteHopefully a lot better,
Gill
