The other day I looked out the kitchen window and I saw a red, red rose bravely blooming in the fall rain.
It was among some bracken and reminded me of a rose for the groom's buttonhole.
When I got closer, I could see that it was a little raggedy from the cold and wet. A pretty bright memory of summer.
These roses hadn't fared as well but I think they look lovely in their youthful old age.
I like how the sun and shadow play on the faded colors and tattered petals.
Lovely. Especially welcome as we brace for a snow storm tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI've really never seen such pretty buds that are past their prime, I like them even better than the open rose. They look Victorian!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Stephanie. Like you, I have struggling Fall roses. The bushes went so crazy this summer, we cut them back to nothing. They are now going crazy again. Your picture reminds me to get out there and do some watering and some last rose of summer picture taking.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Annie
I too live the faded, vintage-looking ones.
ReplyDeleteBut the vivid one is beautiful too..is there such thing as a rose that's not beautiful?
Thanks for your encouraging comment on my "solo"! The conductor was lovely, i find that is generally true of people in the music world, they don't forget how it was starting off, and it's one of the things i love about hanging out with them! have a lovely weekend, Stephanie.
Absolutely beautiful! Funny, I just this afternoon noticed one of my little red roses had bloomed. And it's supposed to get cold tonight. I'd better take a picture!
