Everywhere we went in Newfoundland, we saw beautiful hand-hooked mats. Some were new; most were well-loved and had found a new use in the exhibit rooms. Today it's the old ones that were made of necessity for warmth but also to add beauty to the harsh reality of a Newfoundland winter.

Most of these room displays looked as though the people had just walked out and would return in a few minutes. The rugs had been walked on by many feet. There were even rugs down where we walked. I feel happy in my decision to have my own hooked mats walked on. That's what they're meant for.
