O is for ordinary.
Ordinary is defined as plain, usual or commonplace. But as I looked for photos to illustrate some ordinary things I realized that common can be quite extraordinary.
Nothing is more common than dirt. But is it? This robin finds riches aplenty. Our gardens benefit from the many components of plain old dirt.
Having a cup of tea is a pretty ordinary experience for me. But here, outside the Cork public museum, it was almost exotic.
100 years ago handknit socks were ordinary footwear. Today, it's an experience - both the creation and the wearing.
In some places in the world, this bird is more ordinary than the robin.
And what could be more ordinary than a sleeping baby?
I think 'ordinary' is one of those relative words. Maybe it just mean all those things that we take for granted in our lives. Who knows what might happen if we begin to look more closely at everything. Awareness of the ordinary could lead us to wonderful places and people and adventures.
I just love this post and I agree with you completly. Ordinary is a relative term. What is that stuff on the tree? It almost looks like the kind of barnacles that get on ships! I did click on it to make it bigger, it's fascinating. The ostrich and the baby pictures were such a wonderful surprise! Did you take those photos as well? I love the variety in this post. You are a wonderful photographer.
ReplyDeleteThe things we take for granted, they seem common place or ordinary. For me it is all in the details, to see beauty and amazement everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post. These photos are extraordinary(!) You have an amazing eye. Sunday wonders indeed.
ReplyDeleteGinny - those are pilings from an old pier. They are covered in barnacles and mussels.
ReplyDeleteAll the photos that I posted are my own or Anne's except the ostrich - taken by a globe-trotting friend.
Excellent post and wonderful photos! I think we all should make a better effort to "look more closely at everything."
ReplyDeleteWhat an extraordinary post!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, those photos are extraordinary. I love the soft pink baby hat on the beautiful baby. Thanks for all your support on both the old blog and the new!
ReplyDeleteA lovely collection you've got here, Stephanie. The sleeping baby is definitely my favourite, all innocence and trust.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about looking more closely at "ordinary" things can bring us to extraordinary places.
