W is for Waiting. Nature is very good at teaching us humans to be patient and just - wait.
About ten years ago, we had to cut down a towering rhododendron right by our front door. I've been looking in our old garden diaries but can't find exactly when. It's too bad I can't just hit Control F and bring it up! The year after we took down the rhody, we discovered a baby growing and of course it went in a pot. This is the first year that baby has bloomed - isn't it pretty? Guess the baby is all grown up now.
It's taken three years for this white clematis montana to bloom. But it's grown and spread wonderfully. Here it is making friends with another purple rhody.
We're waiting for the Dublin Bay rose to bloom against that white clematis. One of the reasons to have a climbing red rose.
This is the beginning of my second crop of Asian radishes. The leaves are about half the size of my pinky nail - really tiny. The grains of soil look like boulders next to it.
If we're patient - and if the slugs and/or the robins don't get there first, we'll have strawberries.
And sometimes waiting is so hard. This deck furniture is waiting for a sunny day. It's been a while since our last few days of warmth. C'mon, sun! Try a little harder.
Your garden looks to make the wait worthwhile. Worthwhile...another W word.
ReplyDeleteHow nice! You've made me decide to make a cup of coffee and sit for a minute!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a lovely yard, I would love to wander through. Why did you cut down the big rhododendron?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos as much as I love the plant's names.
ReplyDeleteDo you have the name for that white clematis?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child we lived in an old Georgian town-house and we had a white clematis that partitioned off an area of the garden.
For years I've searched for a similar one - four elongated white petals - but never been able to find one that matched my memories. Until I saw the clematis in your pictures today!
I hope you can give me a pointer as to its name (common or latin) so I might have a chance of tracking it down!
Meanwhile, this has jogged my memory back to my childhood home.....I shall be gone for a while, reliving the past....!
;-)
Ah, beautiful. I love rhododendrons but they can get huge and take over, can't they? :)
