The heat is on!

Too hot to do anything requiring energy.  So, we met up with a friend and went for a little explore.  We've been to Fort Langley many times but we've never walked along the Fraser River.

These kids were having kayaking lessons across from where we ate lunch.

And these boys were jumping from a bridge into the river then scrambling up that path to do it all over again.  Ah, youth!

We visited Derby Reach Park with shady walks along the river with the promise of blackberries in a few weeks.

Work never stops along the river...

A film crew creating a faux cemetery for the 'Supernatural' TV series....

A Douglas squirrel works, too.  The white stuff on the ground is actually fluff from the cottonwood trees.  It was thick like snow but not as cool.

Two friends, deep in conversation, walk by a barn from the original farm on this property.

On the way home, we took the new bridge that has replaced the old ferry that carried cars and people across the river many times each day.  Zip! And we were over.  No waiting in a lineup, no traffic jam to get on the other over-crowded bridge.  Just pay your toll and you're good to go home.

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Wonderful scenes along the river - a great place to be when it's so darn hot. Nice picture of the new Golden Ears bridge, also.

I'm knitting, too, but only with cotton yarn for now, until it cools off a bit.

Well, I never thought I would say it. But with a choice of such beautiful nature and the lovely old barn, my very favorite pic here is the new bridge!! It's stunning and I may even see if I can enlarge it. I would love to frame it and put it somewhere, you got such a beautiful picture! This is maybe my favortie post of yours ever. The colorful kayaks! I've been taking pictures of them one at a time as I see them, but this shot is so lovely. And I've never heard of a Douglas squirrel. The faux cemetary is interesting. Why don't they just find an existing cemetary and save all that money and work? Just for sheer surprise, variety, and beauty, this post is super!

It looks like a beautiful way to spend the day. Of all of the photos, the one that strikes me most is of the children making the most of summer. So far, they've been a little cheated of the warm weather. I hope the rest stays warm enough for you. Not too warm, mind you. Warm enough to feel like summer.

Glad you took off for a "lazy" afternoon (you still walked and took pics though-chuckle). It's amazing how the heat frees us from all that "important" work that we need to do!
Love that bridge - it's a beautiful one!

Stephanie, don't know how I missed this one, but I'm glad I found it now. That looks a great place for a day out, and wow, what a bridge! Makes ours here look like toys. I'd enjoy driving across that, and be quite happy to pay my toll (well, provided it wasn't too dear!)
great pics, by the way!
