Sunday wonders - P

P is for Planning - and for Patience.

This is where I live.  It's a sprawling municipality on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet.  It's a fifteen minute passenger-ferry ride away from downtown Vancouver.  The planning part is what local governments do to help make our communities more sustainable, more livable and just generally, more.

The planning process requires a lot of patience.  There's consultation...and consultation...and more consultation.  We're at the draft proposal point now.  Yup!  More public consultation.  Although, the cynic in me says that by this point, my little 'dot-ocracy' contributions aren't really having much effect.  If we're meant to be working towards 2030 (yikes!!)  then maybe some of these decisions are already in the works.

But, just in case we do have a say, we've been showing up at workshops and open houses for a couple of years now.  All we're asking for is a community center in our part of town.  Will that happen?  Stay tuned...and tuned...and tuned.

A Community Center would be great! And how exciting if you were in on making that happen. You still have the senior center, right?

Ginny - yes, we have a lot of different facilities. What we want is an integrated center.

P also stands for perseverance. Sooner or later your voices and ideas will be heard.

An integrated community center that appeals to everyone sounds wonderful.

We've just had a questionnaire through our door, asking how we'd like our area to develop. And we're a tiny village!

An integrated center would make sense, but then planners don't always follow sense. Sorry, planners HERE don't follow sense, one of the reasons we're in the mess we're in.
I agree with Rudee re perseverance.
Must be lovely all the same to live a passenger ferry ride away from a major city!

city planners have a hard job in my opinion as they have to predict what is going to happen in the future, and deal with generally very constraining buudgets, I don't envy them one bit......

I've seen this before where the planning stages take forever. It would be nice for a community centre. I only remember once a planning development here on PEI the stage went from 1 to 30 in no time at all. Probably done so no one would have the chance to try and stop it.
