Are we there yet?

Not quite.  But this yarn has been softly whispering to me every time I walk by it's hiding place.  I bought it over a month ago and it's been on my mind ever since.  I wanted to see what the colors looked like when knit up.  And I wanted to know if the reviews of this yarn were true.  Mostly, they weren't.  There are some inconsistencies in the spinning but there are no places that are dangerously thin.  The yarn is soft and has nice stitch definition.  It has a slight splittiness but that was easily overcome once I got used to the yarn's character. I couldn't wait to finish to show it off.

While I'm knitting, I almost always daydream.  Sometimes, I'm doing some real-life problem-solving.  Sometimes, I'm imagining a design or trying to find the best use for some of my stash.  While I've been knitting this pattern:  Blackrose Socks designed by Suzi Anvin,  my mind has been on what this pattern says to me.  I've named mine - isn't it great how Ravelry encourages us to give our projects names? - Mountain Lake Socks.

The lace panel is only on one side of the sock.  Easy to figure out which sock goes on which foot!  But, I digress.  The gorgeous purples, dark greens and turquoise make me think of some of the tiny lakes in the Rockies.  The mountains, trees are reflected in the still waters of the lake.  A bit of wind ripples the water but only on one side.  Everywhere else is still serene.  The sun is shining making the glacial water show it's bright blue-green color.  I can imagine myself hiking a trail around this peaceful lake.  See why I love knitting?  It takes me to wonderful places.

This will be a beautiful pair of socks.  Maybe I'll take them for a nice long walk in the woods.  When they're finished.  Back to the needles!

My first thought was of moonlight, so I would suggest entitling them Moonlight on a Mountain Lake.

These are outright georgous!!! You always pick the best colors!!! And I can see the lake and the ripples! I would never be able to put them on my feet and actually walk on them, they are just too pretty!!!

Drop Dead Gorgeous would be the obvious name if you choose to abandon the one you already picked!

You are right - lakes come to mind, and because of the purple i think Night at the lake"...we all need some dreams! And the colors are sumptuous!

Stephanie, these are absolutely beautiful! I get the lake reference too, the shades speak of all that you have written.
Isn't it funny how each yarn has a personality (your splitting one too!), and that combined with a pattern and the uniqueness of an individual's handwork, it truly makes for a unique creation.
I love knitting too!!

I love the colours and the sock pattern. I also remember that wonderful feeling watching how a pattern develops and the colour distribution when using a two or three colour yarn. I can't knit anymore but love working with fabrics. I have made four quilts this winter and I am so thrilled to see how each project turns out! Enjoy your knitting daydreams... it sounds like a wonderful worthwhile pastime.

Beautiful socks Stephanie! I love the design and the wool is gorgeous. I wish we could decent sock wool where I live, I think I'll have to go to Dublin or online. I only have the Lidl sock wool which is fine and patterned but only in stripes and patterns so I am not sure it would benefit something like this design. I am trying a new SKYP socks design now - it's Slip one purlwise with yarn at back, knit one, yarn over and pass slip stitch over - alternating with rib stitch. looks nice in the pattern, hope it works in the stripey wool!
