Sunday wonders - U

U is for Unity.

These Olympic Winter Games are all about unity.    For a couple of weeks, the whole world can focus its attention in a positive place.  No matter what country we come from, together we watched our athletes march proudly into the stadium.  Over 60, 000 from around the world sat shoulder to shoulder when the Flame finally stopped running.

We held our collective breath watching Apollo take the lead in a speed-skating heat.  Could he do it?  Would he do it?  It was like watching a flood rising...unstoppable.  And, though our champion might not win, we can admire the skill of the winner.

We all groaned when the skiers wiped out on the moguls: Japanese, American or Canadian -it 's unimportant. We can - and will - for two weeks, elevate our national pride to include empathy.
For the next two weeks, we will be united all around the world.

I love your picture! We have satellite dish, so cannot get NBC, the channel that carries the olympics. I have been checking their affiliate MSNBC, because they should be having some coverage. I really wanted to see the opening ceremony! Are you actually going to any of them?

I love the sentiment here. It's been nice to watch some of the events. Lucky for us, we get CBC here, so we have our choice of Canadian or American broadcasting. I like them both, but prefer the Canadian.

I have to admit that so far I've followed more of it on the internet than tv but it is always fun.

I watched the tiniest bit of the couples skating last night. I would like to watch more but haven't had the TV on very much this weekend. Perhaps I shall watch tonight. You have sparked my interest.

Hear, hear, Stephanie.
I watched a tiny bit of the luge last night- the speeds are just amazing! I'd love to be on the sidelines to see it for real.
Hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Great post and I wish some of the TV commentators I heard over the weekend held your world view.
