R is for Recreation...
Yesterday, we enjoyed a spring-ish day with the kids...
We had our binoculars....
We saw a Northern Harrier hawk as it flew over the marsh looking for a treat to eat...
We saw a bald eagle perched atop a tall tree. It was watching for a meal, too.
Time for a water break...
More searching for birds with those binoculars. It's amazing how you can make people look so big - and so small!
We even had a picnic. But first, the hot chocolate! And one of us had a snooze while lunch was being set out.
This green-wing teal was finding lots to eat in the marsh pond and the red-wing blackbirds sang to us while we ate.
And at the end of a perfect day, a rainbow. Recreation doesn't get much better. I'm ready for another week now.

Wow, it really was a perfect day. Seems more like early spring than winter. Looks like the children were enjoying the outing. =)
Fabulous shots of the Harrier hawk and eagle! We'll hopefully be seeing our nesting eagles again in the next week or two.
The children are just beautiful. Did you have them to yourself? You are good if you can identify a Harrier from a distance like that. What a lovely rainbow shot.
I'm envious. Saskatchewan has had winter storm and blizzard conditions since Friday evening, and it's still snowing and the temperature is dropping. There is ice under a foot of snow so cars and buses are getting stuck. Walking is a better option but still not easy. Oh, well. It's been an easy winter until now.
What a fabulous looking day! I love the rainbow at the end.
Awesome pictures! Love the first one of Becky and great bird pics too.
A lovely account of a day out with the kids!
I love the bright colours, definitely spring on the way. And the second shot, with the snow-capped mountains, is just blissful.
Glad your recreation was re-creating!
Looks like you had a lovely day; what pretty children.
Thank you all for your comments.
Penny - I wasn't meaning to gloat. It's raining now and our local mountains are getting the snow they need for the Olympic events.
Mimi- those mountains that you can see are actually the ones we're hoping will stay snow-covered through March.
Ginny - we did see the Harrier as it hovered over the marsh so we had lots of opportunity to ID it. This was just the best photo.
How great to have days like this.
