Feast and festivity

We humans weren't the only ones dining out yesterday...

This heron decided that the fish next door had grown enough and he stalked them oh, so stealthily.  He caught two big ones!

A tiny brown creeper sidled up and down the pine tree looking for good things to eat.  He's a very well camouflaged bird  and might be easier to see if you click on the photo.  They are so funny to watch as they seem to glide up and around the tree.  And then they turn around and slide down - head first!

We were 'head first' to a party to see in the New Year.  Couldn't resist a photo of our cool party hats - real feathers!  We spent a delightful evening with a lot of very young adults and a few older folks like ourselves.  I love the energy of young people.  It's so much fun to be around them - something is always going on for me to learn.  And when I'm with them, I'm struck by how like our past young selves they are.  And yet, how different.  I do believe the world will be in safe hands when they get the reins. They have such good hearts and clever minds.

It was a good start to 2010!

Yay for the heron. Although I bet your neighbors weren't impressed. Love the hat picture!

I've seen herons wipe out entire koi ponds. I'm pretty certain your neighbor didn't want to feed him, but hey, everyone needs to eat on the holiday.

You two look so festive! Happy New Year.

Your party was no doubt livelier than our quiet party. Love the photo.

That heron has found a fast food diner...just like the Cooper's hawk that frequents our back yard! Oh well, everyone's gotta eat.

Great smiles and party hats!

I wondered if you saw my comment on this post yesterday. When I just looked today, it was gone! There was a comment that had been removed by the blog administrator. I have never seen that happen before. Wonder if someone wrote something objectionable? Don't know if it was mine or why they would do that. I had just said how much I enjoyed this post as we are both birdwatchers! I so love the heron. A blue heron I think. Do you have many there? And the cute little creeper reminds me of our nuthatches.

Happy New Year Stephanie!
I love your title today, and your opening line, it draws one in.
I suppose the heron is only doing what anyone hungry would do...I'm glad I don't have to stalk and catch my fish!
Your New year party sounds fun!
